An allegory is a way of presenting information in a figurative way. An allegory conveys its messages through the use of symbols or symbolic actions. Most of the time an allegory is not verbal, rather it is conveyed through the use of visual methods. Allegory is used throughout the movie Apocalypse Now, because there are a lot of symbolic visual scenes. The scene where there’s fighting and killing show exactly was going on in the war, and the brutality that people had to go through every single day. This is conveyed to the audience in a way that it’s the only thing being conveyed, but it’s kind of in the background, although the audience does pick it up very quickly.

One symbolic scene in the movie was when the soldiers were going up the river. The farther they travel up the river, and going deeper and deeper, the deadlier it gets. This symbolizes how the Vietnam War was getting deadlier and more dangerous, and more lives are being lost every day. When going up the river they finally run into shooting at the Do Long Bridge. The name of the bridge I believe is symbolic to the fact that Americans have been there for a very long time.

Another scene that I found to be symbolic in the movie was when they had a playboy bunny show. When all of the bunnies become uncontrollable it symbolizes the lives of the American soldiers that were in fighting in Vietnam. As soon as they went into the war to fight, and when they came out their lives were drastically different. They were uncontrollable in war. They would go into innocent villages and kill innocent people just because they were in this war, where they were told was for a good cause.
